Smoke tree. | Flickr - Photo Sharing! They typically have dark burgundy colored leaves through the summer, then they turn scarlet red in the fall. They are called smoke trees because their blossoms are in large fine clusters that, from a distance look almost smoky. They're a slow growing drought resistant shrub-type tree.
