Andrássy Avenue 1875, Budapest. This straight, tree-lined street was built in 1876. In 1885 it was named after Count Andrassy, prime minister and great supporter of its construction. As a little microcosm of history, the name of the avenue actually changed several times: Stalin Avenue in 1950, Avenue of Hungarian Youth in 1956, Avenue of the republic in 1957, before finally reverting to Andrassy Avenue in 1990, at the end of the communist era.
