Oliver Messel St. Lucy, Barbados Pedigree: In the 1970s British theatrical designer (and island local) Oliver Messel executed a remarkable transformation of this 17th-century sugar plantation overlooking the Caribbean. Christened Fustic House, the estate still bears Messel’s stamp in its broad arches and outdoor staircases, as well as in shutters and awnings painted his signature green.
