The Cinema at RAF Swinderby. My father organised many shows here with ENSA and also showed films such as 'Over the Rainbow'. Maybe that helped some of the Polish aircrew with their English!
An arial photo of RAF Swinderby in Lincolnshire where my father was stationed during WW2. Many of the aircrew flying from here were Polish and ultimately their squadron was renamed 1586 and flew missions from Brindisi to support the Warsaw Uprising. A number are buried in Solymar Military Cemetery.
This British War Cemetery is near to my home in Budapest. It mostly contains the graves of Allied aircrew flying supply missions from Brindisi to support the Warsaw Uprising. Amongst the British and Commonwealth flyers are also a number of Polish airmen from 1586 Squadron. This group was formed from the remnant of 301 squadron which before the fall of Italy, was based at my father's station, RAF Swinderby, in Lincolnshire
