Getting ready for Joan Baxter

Almost ready to leave for Georgia and the Joan Baxter workshop sponsored by Tapestry Weavers South. My loom is warped and my personal collection of Ymmyarns and John Moss bobbins are also coming along. The largest two tapestries finished in 2013; The Mango Hunters and the 2013 Tapestry Diary Triptych are already at the University of North Georgia. The exhibit opening on October 8th and the artist talk with Joan Baxter are eagerly anticipated! I have been studying Joan's work on the internet…

Day 40 of the Woven Tapestry Journal has come and even though the weather has still been really cold, with snow storms and freezing rain, March has been a very good month for the tapestry. The storm we had just left us with the idea that Spring will have to wait a bit more, and we will still need to focus in the winter scenes for a while. Anyway, we are still here. Once we walk through the storm, the reward is to get into the Attic and start the day with a cup of coffee, put some great music…

Kaneko: FIBER

I became interested in Kaneko because the American Tapestry Biennial 10 is hanging there right now. But two things really convinced me to drive the 500 miles from Colorado to Omaha. (1) Dr. Jessica Hemmings was giving a lecture about her new book and exhibition, Cultural Threads and (2) there were five other fiber shows there. Neither the lecture or the other shows disappointed. We at HC are looking forward to yet another year of dorm life! Sure, the showers might become scalding hot when someone flushes the toilet, but college is the only time when you get to live in the same building with all of your friends, and that makes it all worth it. And even the dingiest dorm room can look so much better with some creativity and a few basic craft supplies. Whether it's your first semester in college or the beginning of your senior year, these DIY ideas are sure to spruce…
