Transcendent Symbols of the Depths: Snakes, Lizards, Frogs

"This is the universal quality of the animal as a symbol of transcendence. These creatures, figuratively coming from the depths of the ancient Earth Mother, are symbolic denizens of the collective unconscious. They bring into the field of consciousness a special chthonic (underworld) message that is somewhat different from the spiritual aspirations symbolized by the birds..." C.G.Jung, Man and His Symbols

The Orphic egg is usually represented as an egg surrounded by a coiled serpent. The egg symbolizes the belief in the Greek Orphic religion that the universe originated from within a silver egg. The first emanation from this egg, described in an ancient hymn, was Phanes-dionysus, the personification of light. In the cult of Demeter also symbolises the vital force. 2005

Salamader, 2007. The symbolism of water deals with transformation, intuition and motion. I dreamt about the "white gilas" in 2005. They looked like two lovely, small crocodiles, and were intelligent beings. I had to construct a comfortable terrarium for them, which I actually did it by painting this picture :-)
