Paint any wood furniture without sanding. DIY newbie and had no issues! Buy valspar bonding primer for glossy surfaces and a good quality latex paint with a gloss finish (more gloss = scratch resistance). Use foam rollers and foam "brushes" for hard to reach areas. Let primer dry 2hrs before painting. I used 2 coats of paint (wait 2hrs minimum between coats). Follow the instructions on the paint cans for temperatures and other care just to be safe.
