In my garden, the herbs always feel like the “old souls.” And even though their flowers may seem less flamboyant, they seem to have their own secret language with the bees, easily attracting them all year long. The plants I am using to create the ceramic jewelry dish in this video are various herbs I grow in my garden: sage, rosemary, thyme, mint, oregano and fennel. All of them stay green in my garden, even through the San Diego winter. The are wonderful to use in cooking, for aromatherapy, and of course in my art. I also love the symbolism they have had through the centuries. The sage plant symbolizes wisdom and long life. Rosemary symbolizes fidelity and remembrance. Thyme and fennel symbolize strength. Mint symbolizes purification. Oregano symbolizes protection. All the leaves have a beautiful texture that I love to work with. When I press the leaves into clay, they impart an intricate imprint, and they are all some of the most satisfying leaves to add color to as I paint and glaze the piece. Like all my pieces, this is ceramic clay that is fired in a pottery kiln to very high temperatures- at these temperatures the clay transforms into a dense vitrified ceramic and the glaze becomes a glossy rich coating sealing the piece. The gold on the rim is a layer of real gold, also fired in the kiln #herbs #botanicalart #ceramics #cottagecore | Vuvu Ceramics | Aoi Teshima · C'est si bon
