During April of 1920 the Summer Olympics were held in Antwerp, Belgium. The theme of these games was remembering the victims of the First World War and reconciliation between nations after the end of the war. These were the first games in which the Olympic flag and symbol of five interlocking rings appeared and they were used to represent unity and universality after the war. These were also the first games in which doves were released in the opening ceremony to symbolize world peace.
