Milky Way Galaxy looming over Wilson Beach in Australia ~ The mystery of why the Milky Way has always been sideways in the night sky may have been answered. Scientists from University of VA and MA announced that the Sun, the Moon, our planet and its siblings, were not born into the familiar band of stars known as the Milky Way galaxy, but we actually belong to a strange formation with the unfamiliar name of the Sagittarius Dwarf galaxy!

This is why I love remote places. It is absolutely stunning. I don't understand people who don't appreciate nature and the universe. {Aoraki Milky Way by Daniel Wong - Photo 133150203 -

The Milky Way over the two small towns of Gerlach and Empir

One of the more beautiful Milky Way photos I’ve seen. This one is taken over the two small towns of Gerlach and Empire, Nevada.

Space...The Milky Way. The Milky Way is the spiral galaxy where our solar system lives. It is 100,000 light years in diameter and 1000 light years thick at the center of the galactic disk. There are 200-400 billion stars in the Milky Way. Our Sun is 26,400 light years from the galactical center. On a dark night, we can see a faint hazy whitish band of starlight spanning the sky. That band is the Milky Way galaxy.

May gifts found in the dark) *the gift of a starry night. This is what the sky looks like in the middle of the ocean!
