This man is marching during the 60s for civil rights. He is holding a sign that simply claims he is a man. This was meant to tackle the notion that Black people were subhuman or inferior to the white counterpart.
Many of these picture books would be great for launching Civil Rights discussions in the upper elementary classroom.
