Marie Curie (7 November 1867 – 4 July 1934) was a Polish physicist and chemist, working mainly in France, who is famous for her pioneering research on radioactivity. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the only woman to win in two fields, and the only person to win in multiple sciences.

Dred Scott was an Black American slave who sued unsuccessfully for his freedom in the Dred Scott v. Sandford case of 1857. Scott based his case on the fact that although he and his wife Harriet were slaves, he had lived with his master Dr. John Emerson in states and territories where slavery was illegal according to both state laws and the Northwest Ordinance of 1787, to include Illinois and Minnesota.
