With the BP Gulf oil spill disaster, and now pirates, it's been a rough year for mermaids. This whimsical portrayal was made by Allison Button of the Mod Mischief blog, out of a Styrofoam cooler, foam wig head, old clothes, a backpack, cardboard and a few flourishes from a costume shop. As Allison puts it, "Why choose between dressing as a sexy mermaid or a scary pirate when you could be both!"
