D: 01/26/14. American Goulash- Made this with a couple of changes. Used only 1 teaspoon season salt (1 Tbsp it called for seemed like A LOT) Used 4 Tbsp Soy Sauce (instead of 3 Tbsp) used 1 BOX of noodles This was a nice meal to have and then a day or 2 later as a left over. Travels well and noodles aren't mushy. After the last 2 meals I made from Pinterest, I was underwhelmed by the presentation but it was good...like a more expensive version of Hamburger Help tho. I will make it again.
NYT Cooking: There is no high drama about simmering a stew. However fine, stew is a homey, intimate exchange, a paean to the way living things improve when their boundaries relax, when they incorporate some of the character and flavor of others. Soulful, a word inextricably linked with a good sturdy stew, is the payoff to the cook who plans a little and has the patience to abide.
