Ken Anderson's Robin Hood

When Walt Disney Productions decided to produce an animated film based on the classic tale of Robin Hood, it was Ken Anderson who who got to get to work before anyone else. During conversations with the animators Ken found out that some of the most fun they ever had was animating the anthropomorphic animals in Song of the South. So he suggested that the story of Robin Hood be told with animal characters. Everybody loved the idea and after completing early design work Ken presented his…

Deja View: The Sheriff of Nottingham by Ken Anderson

The Sheriff of Nottingham

The process of visual development for a Disney character during the 1970ies involved only a few steps compared to much earlier Disney films. For productions like Snow White, Pinocchio and Fantasia many artists, who were part of Joe Grant's Model Department, contributed endless designs, sculptures and rough model sheets that eventually led to the final look of the characters. After the completion of Sleeping Beauty a lot of artistic personal was let go in order to streamline future…

Darkspear Beware!

I haven't really been playing WOW much here lately....but I felt the need to log in and start a monk. Here he is, at least how I imagine him while playing anyway. Davidlopanda. I still cackle with glee that it wasn't taken. If only i had been smart enough to save that name for my warlock.

More Chanticleer

Here are a few more of Marc Davis' rough character studies for Chanticleer. I love the bewildered waiters and the painter. The images below represent final illustrations based on a few sketches from the previous post. Too bad this movie was never made, but at least some of these designs sort of survived and can be found in the vintage Disneyland ride "America Sings" (also Marc's work), "Splash Mountain" and the animated movie "Robin Hood".
