Hungarian Coat

Hungarian szür = derived from mantles over 2500 years old. The garment was worn by shepherds mostly. Their thick wool felt was protective against cold and wet (long collars had roundels at the lower corners to form a hood).

Kalotaszeg is a region in Transylvania, Romania. It is one of the few areas in Western Romania with a significant Hungarian population, and it is a stronghold of old Transylvanian Hungarian folk traditions.


The Székely (pronounced Say-kay) are a subgroup of Hungarians, who mostly live in Transylvania.
