al-Biruni wrote more than 100 works involving many of the sciences and mathematics of the day. In math, al-Biruni wrote about geometry, ratio theory, combinatorial analysis, algebraic definitions, and many more. He built an observatory from which he was able, using trigonometry and geometry, to determine the earth's curve, and from that, to calculate the circumference of the earth fairly accurately.

Eratosthenes will always be remembered for the calculation of the Earth's circumference using trigonometry and knowledge of the angle of elevation of the Sun at noon in Alexandria and Syene (now Aswan, Egypt).

Eratosthenes was a Greek mathematician who is famous for his work on prime numbers and for measuring the diameter of the earth. He was also a geographer, poet, astronomer, and music theorist.

The Institute of Oriental Studies’ collection of manuscripts counts more than 26,000 manuscripts and 39,000 lithographs.

A landmark in humanity’s documentary heritage, the manuscript collection from Abu Rayhan al-Biruni Institute of Oriental Studies is now presented and mapped in a new book, published by UNESCO Office in Tashkent: “The Treasury of Oriental Manuscripts”.
