In an afterword to The Journalist and the Murderer (1990), I wrote about Jeffrey Masson’s lawsuit, taking a very high tone. I put myself above the fray; I looked at things from a glacial distance. My aim wasn’t to persuade anyone of my innocence. It was to show off what a good writer I was. Reading the piece now, I am full of admiration for its irony and detachment—and appalled by the stupidity of the approach.

Figurative artist Leah Kelly works with oils, acrylics and charcoal to merge portraiture and surrealism. An unusual combination of faces and bodies in a representational art style is used to express emotions and experiences common within the female experiences. Women’s suffering, power, and emotions are expressed- translated through original ideas and compositions, or retellings of iconic imagery.

This is a self portrait I did over the summer about the feeling of getting overwhelmed and strangled by stress etc. Aside from a few additional tweaks its finished. I used charcoal and did my best to use contrast in order to focus the main view point at the face.
