Ancient oak tree

A tall, gnarled old oak tree at Burnham Beeches ancient woodland in Buckinghamshire, England. The old tree soars into the air, looking majestic against a blue sky, the green oak leaves dappled in sunlight. The tree trunk is twisted and covered in old vines, with a large hole towards the top of the tree.

One of the longest living types of trees, oaks can survive upwards of a millennium. With over 600 different species, all varieties have enormous trunks, branches, showy bark, and acorns with cup-like caps. Since they mature into large trees with extremely wide canopies they are best suited for homes with large yards.

The Angel Oak is thought to be one of the oldest living things east of the Mississippi River. Acorns from the Angel Oak have grown to produce authentic direct-offspring trees.. Live oaks generally grow out and not up, but the Angel Oak has had plenty of time to do both, standing 65 ft high and with a canopy providing 17,000 square feet of shade.
