During this 3.5-hour workshop, participants will get to learn basic bookbinding skills and how to handcraft an exposed spine book using 3 different stitches - french link stitch, link stitch and kettle stitch. Participants will be able to customise their books by choosing from blank and/or dotted grid pages and a variety of colours for the cover and thread.

This binding style is perfect for creating photo albums, guest books, sketchbooks, journals and notebooks. The Coptic stitch method has been used since as early at the second century A.D. by the Copts, early Christians in Ancient Egypt. With this method, a book’s covers and text block are hand-sewn together leaving the spine of the book exposed. The visible Coptic stitch resembles chain stitching –a stitching method used in embroidery– and has also become known as the chain stitch.
