Create a corner nook with kitchen cabinets. To create this corner nook, I turned cabinets on their side with the door openings facing down. Remember that comfortable seating is typically no less than 15 inches deep. Hide the gap behind the cabinets by adding sides and a top. Meng and his husband, Andrew, gorgeously transformed this outdated two-bedroom co-op, which they say hadn't been updated for almost 60 years. There was worn green carpeting, an odd layout, and a very dirty bathroom, to name only a few of the things that would need remodeling.

This Danish Modern masterpiece was designed in the 1960s by Hans Olsen for Frem Rojle. Four 3-legged chairs fit snugly with the skirt of the table, making it a perfect compact dining solution for small spaces. Its design is so economical yet almost whimsical, like a 3-dimensional puzzle or game of Tetris.Some models include a butterfly leaf that wings open to accommodate six seats. Other variations feature slightly sturdier 4-legged chairs.
