a city street filled with lots of tall buildings and cars driving down it's sides

"VANCOUVER, B.C., Canada GRANVILLE STREET is the main thoroughfare of the city, extending from the C.P.R. Wharf for a length of 10 miles to the Fraser River. This busy street is affectionately called "The Theatre Row". Photo by George Weinhaupl. Pub. by Natural Color Productions, Ltd., Vancouver, B.C. Made in Canada, Grant-Mann. a city street at night with cars driving on it

Couldn't be a showcase of Vancouver without Granville Street. The only real nightlife strip in "no-fun city" is beautiful at night when all the concert venues light up. Follow me on Instagram for more photos like this: https://www.instagram.com/gavinkrohm/

an old and new street scene in the 1950's and today

A comparison that will make many a Vancouverite cringe or even break down in tears. Where do I even start? On the left in the old picture is the now demolished Birks Building, a fabulous old building that gave way to the current low-rise building that is now a London Drugs. It was in operation from the mid 60s then it was twinned in 1976 and incorporated into the Granville 7 Theatre (according to cinematreasures.org). But exact details of the theatres have been scant in my online searching so I'm sure there's more to it. Also note the two very cool old trolley buses in the old photo, plus a few other…

black and white photos of people crossing the street in an urban setting with tall buildings

Here we can see the condo frenzy that has occurred in this part of downtown. It appears there weren't many tall buildings in this area until the West End, past Burrard Street, but that has sure changed! Beside the Austin Hotel, which is now a Ramada, we get a better shot of what used to exist on that corner before that two-story building was built. It looks to be some sort of park space. On the right of the photo, we see that building on the corner used to be a Royal Bank, and now it is a…
