CHRISTA SMITH | Cotton Berry Quilts on Instagram: "I’m learning some big stitch hand quilting these days. Of course it’s much slower than using my longarm but I really love the way it looks and plan to hand quilt one of my larger appliqué quilts. This new pillow pattern I designed (coming soon) is perfect to practice on.

8.8K views · 1.3K reactions | This is one of my favorite ways to create a turned edge for appliqué. ❤️ (I think it’s called a faced technique.) I’m using a lightweight nonwoven fusible interfacing. My favorite one is Quilter’s Select Cutaway. It’s very sheer but strong and doesn’t tear easily. You can also use Pellon 907F which is similar. These hearts are about 2.5” and my favorite part is turning them right side out using a wide straw and a ballpoint bodkin. Once the hearts are made, you can fuse them onto your project and then appliqué by hand or machine. See my previous post for my free Vintage Heart quilt block pattern or see the link in my profile. 😍 #facedappliqué #turnededgeapplique #appliquequilting #applique #heartapplique #quiltersselectcutaway #quiltersselect #handappliqu Patchwork, Tela, Molde, Couture, How To Make A Quilted Heart, Linking Hearts Quilt Pattern Free, Heart Quilts Free Pattern, Heart Quilts Applique, Sewing Hearts Ideas

Those of you who are following along with the construction of Twilight Gardens may have been wondering about the applique coming up in block 5. We are not quite there yet, but I thought I would give you a little primer on one way to do applique. It seems there are dozens of ways to applique one fabric to another, and ultimately, you need to try a few methods and find the one you like the best and gives you the best results. I tend to be a hand applique person, and many of you are not, and…

I actually really LOVE the art of appliqué! Even though I don't use it that much (practically never) but I do love seeing others' works on the Internet and appreciate the artistry so much :) My October project that I've mentioned earlier in this post is also appliqué-friendly and, personally, I'm going to experiment a little in this field! So I thought if anyone wants to try the same I should tell a bit more about the methods of applique in advance. Method 1 So, the first thing you should…

Jill Finley on Instagram: "Prepare your appliqué shapes by turning the edge under before you add them to your block. 1. Make templates from Jillily Studio Maker Paper. 2. Press template to the wrong side of your fabric—the heat will make it stick. 3. Cut fabric around template leaving a 1/4” seam allowance. 4. Moisten the seam allowance with starch using a Jillily Studio Starch Brush. 5. Use a Jillily Studio Quilter’s Digit to pull the fabric over the template as you press with an iron. 6. Remove the template—it can be used again! 7. Lastly, when all your pieces are prepared, stick them to your block using Jillily Studio Appliqué-Glue. (Not shown in this video.)
