Drepanis coccinea, Hawaiian honeycreeper, 'I'iwi. A bright red Hawaiian honeycreeper of high elevation native forests on Kauai, Maui, and Hawaii Island. Very active and boisterous in the understory and forest canopy. Aggressively chases other birds from flowering trees. The long bill of the ʻiʻiwi assists it to extract nectar from the flowers of the Hawaiian lobelioids, which have decurved corollas. Vocalizations include a complex array of gurgles, chuckles and reedy notes.

'I'iwi was one a common native forest bird found throughout the Hawaiian archipelago, but this honeycreeper has disappeared from most of its former range.
