One of my favorite things that was shown to me during my elementary age years was an optical illusion. It was the very famous Rubin Vase (pictured below) which you can see in either two ways - as a vase or as two faces that are facing each other....

Our brains are complex and tricky little machines. However, the same abilities that make our brains such powerful tools also make them incredibly easy to fool.

An illusion of a portrait. It holds your attention and makes you examine it. At first the man's face appears to look like it's only half of his face is showing, but once you look at it, you notice that it's also a profile view of the man's face. I think it's a clever and classic design example.
