Sher Marshall on Instagram: "😱 I didn’t teach some of these correctly for literally decades. I know many of us make the mistake of adding an “uh” sound after a letter sound. 🚫 For example, we say “buhhh” for the letter B. I teach students that we need to take our scissors and just clip off that extra sound (and then we clip it off with our pretend finger scissors). 👶 If we add that extra sound, then “baby” would be pronounced “bu-ay-bu-ee”. 📌 Save this so you can be sure your kids know the right sounds! #alphbet #lettersounds #preschool #learningletters" Phonics Writing Activities, How To Teach Sounds Of Letters, How To Teach The Letter A, Letter Phonics Activities, Sounds Of The Alphabet, Activity For Letter A Preschool, Teach Phonics Preschool, Teaching Alphabet Sounds, How To Teach Letters And Sounds

One of the most important things we know about how the brain learns to read is that children need to be explicitly taught the letter names AND the sounds that they spell. Connecting the letter name/symbol (grapheme) and sound (phoneme) we are preparing our little ones for later reading success. By using this little chant as a reference guide, you can provide a fun and playful way to learn the alphabet AND the sounds that the letters represent. I use hand gestures that my students helped create to give a little hint about what words start with those letter sounds. Start with a few at a time and work your way up to all 26!
