Rhesus macaque

Monkeys are common primates in India with the western hoolock gibbon (Hoolock hoolock) being the only known ape. The most common Indian monkey is the rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta), but there are many other monkey species which can be found in this vast Asian country. These monkeys can be found in many different areas of India, from the Himalayas in the northeastern states to the evergreen Western Ghats mountain ranges.
