The incomparable Ruffian. Heywood Hale Broun was one of the commentators for the CBS broadcast. Scan from Dec. '95 Equus magazine: "Her shattered sesamoids supported by an air cast, Ruffian awaits the horse ambulance following her breakdown in the match race." Ruffian was on the lead and pulling away from Foolish Pleasure when the injury occurred. Trainer Frank Whiteley said later he thought her hitting her right shoulder against the gate at the start and then running all out was the cause. RIP, brave one. There will never be another one like you. All The Pretty Horses, Beautiful Horses, Air Cast, Horse Lessons, Horse Facts, Sport Of Kings, Thoroughbred Horse, Racehorse, Equus
