It's not hard to see why dreadnoughts were able to project so much power in their day. This view of the USS Texas, BB-35, brimming with guns from stem to stern leaves little doubt as to the havoc she could wrought. Texas, is a New York-class dreadnought (last one anywhere) launched by Newport News Shipbuilding on May 18, 1912 and commissioned on March 12, 1914.
