Description This image is based on a once quite real concept. Originally when the Empire State Building was built in 1931, the topside observatory was planned to be a docking port for airships ferrying passengers from Europe to central Manhattan. The passengers would then have been escorted to an elevator and zoomed down to do their business with no need to travel long distances to get to the City. This was considered a perfectly plausible function for such a tall building and fitted well…
