Empire costume worn by Merle Oberon as Joséphine de Beauharnais in the 1954 film "Désirée." As with most film costumes at the time, this is based less in historical fashion than in the styles of the day. Love the cut of the dress though. Randall Creel IV, 1963 (C.I.63.23.3a, b) | The bustle, which took hold in the 1870s, was at its most exaggerated extension by 1885. At its extreme, it was almost perpendicular to the small of the back. It was a popular conceit that the cantilevers of these bustles could support an entire tea service. #OneMetManyWorlds

Love the glove...

I had very good intentions when I wrote my last post... I was going to try to post several times this week because there was (is) so much I need to share... but Monday came/went, then Tuesday, and next thing I knew - it is Friday! Where did the week go?!? I've recently noticed that the days get shorter as I get older (funny, nobody warned me about that!) (So I still have tons of estate sale finds to share at a later date and since I'm attending a few more this weekend, I may never catch up!)…
