Wine Cellar

From a bus while traveling to Eger, Hungary, I spotted a hillside potholed with what seems like caves. We made a special effort to return to the site. There were probably a hundred (maybe slightly exaggerated…) wine cellars that we were told had been there for generations. Several were being tended in processing their latest crop of grapes and hospitality encouraged sampling the nectar. Indeed, it was stupendous! This photo was temporarily removed, but still available.

The Valley of the Beautiful Women outside of Eger, Hungary, is known for its bull's blood wine, which locals mix with cola. There are many many cellars there, and a glass of the stuff is around 50 cents, or at least it was when I was there in 2006. Many places also sell slices of bread with butter, onion, and paprika on int-- tasty.
