I'm taking a horizontal parting from the recession of the hairline towards center back to section out the top of the head. Take a vertical parting that works towards the top of the ear to separate the front and back of the head. Stand in front of the head and over direct the side section towards yourself. Shift your finger angle to leave length towards the bottom. By doing this, it allows us to cut layers in the front without cutting that front area too short and leaving it too disconnected from the length in the back. Overdirect your back sections to the front and cut them to match your guideline. We finish cutting of the hair so clip it out of the way and release the top section. We'll continue to over direct our sections towards the front of the head. However, we'll elevate the hair much higher now. We're going to cut a round shape from front to back which is over directed slightly forward and what this will do is create softer, free-flowing layers that have a shift of weight that flows towards the back. This is how we create that feathered butterfly effect. Check that both sides are even by over directing the entire top section to the center. Apply camera volume mousse extra to get bounce and lift.
