Promoting diversity is a great way to get students to open up and feel more comfortable at school. I think that it is important to involve families and culture as well letting students share about themselves and where their families came from.
Cultural Iceberg - When teaching topics related to social justice and respecting cultures, this is a good visual reference to open the conversation about the more and less visible aspects of culture (perhaps a FACULTY discussion)
Inside classroom :multicultural bulletin board can be used to let students see the diversity in the classroom and give students a chance to share their culture with their peers, which increases global competency.
