@fdny On Wednesday, 298 Probationary Firefighters will graduate and make their way to their assigned firehouses across New York City. Among them is Probationary Firefighter Jerome Nedd, Jr. who was 11 years old on September 11. His father, Jerome Nedd, was working as a chef at the Windows of the World restaurant in the North Tower. Probationary Firefighter Nedd described how his mother picked him up from school that day and how the entire family huddled around the tv, trying to figure out what was happening. The memorial service for his father happened two weeks later. The events of that day inspired him to join the #FDNY as a firefighter.

@abcnews The “Son of Sam” killer, who set New York City on edge with late-night shootings in the 1970s, was denied parole after his twelfth board appearance.

The now 70-year-old convicted serial killer was rejected after a Board of Parole prison interview back on May 14. The shooter had targeted young women and couples sitting in cars, killing six people and wounding seven beginning in July 1976.

David Berkowitz was sentenced in 1978 to the maximum prison term of 25 years to life for each of the six slayings.

@africanarchives May 13, 1985 - Philadelphia Police Department drop an explosive device from a helicopter onto a residential home occupied by the MOVE Organization following a standoff & firefight. The Philadelphia Fire Department let the subsequent fire burn out of control, destroying 61 homes over two city blocks.

MOVE was a black liberation group that encompassed philosophies of black nationalism, anarcho-primitivism & animal rights. The group was founded in 1972 by John Africa (Vincent Leaphart), a native of West Philly & veteran of the Korean War. Africa began a series of racial teachings that grew a following of people who believed in his ideology. He compiled his thoughts into a book called "The Guidelines", which became the primary source of his teachings & principles.

@demsmight MASSIVE! The Biden administration is expanding Obamacare to DACA recipients, commonly known as “Dreamers.” The Dreamers (an initiative started under President Obama) allows immigrants who came into the US before the age of 18 to have a legal status while seeking an education in the US.

The program doesn’t currently offer a path to citizenship, but it does help immigrant students tremendously by lowering their tuition costs, that would otherwise be considered “out of state” and gives them a legal status to remain in the states.

When people tell you “both sides are the same” prove them wrong by showing them this.
