It was 1963, Miles & Coltrane in Hollywood. Personnel are John Coltrane’s classic quartet with McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, and Elvin Jones. Miles Davis’s sextet was a temporary band formed after Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, and Jimmy Cobb left, with Frank Strozier (as), George Coleman (ts), Harold Mabern (p), Ron Carter (b), and Frank Butler (d). This was one of Ron Carter’s earliest gigs with Miles.
