Once you have sustained a hamstring injury, the recurrence rate in the first 2 months is 22%. The functions of the hamstrings are hip flexion and knee extension and most of the injuries occur during running and sprinting when the hamstrings are generating tension while lengthening (eccentric contraction). Nordic hamstring exercise in training resulted in a 60% reduction of new hamstring injury and an 85% reduction in recurrence. ~By Saif Usman,MD
