This is the red ruffed lemur (Varecia rubra)! Native to an extraordinarily limited range in northeast Madagascar. One of the largest of the lemur species. Highly frugivorous seed dispersers, fruits account for up to 90% of their diet. Threatened by severe habitat loss and hunting for bushmeat and the illegal pet trades. 80% population reduction is anticipated over the next 24 years. They are Critically Endangered. Learn more.
