BMW was founded in 1913 as Rapp Motorenwerke GmbH, an aircraft engine manufacturer in Germany. In 1916, the company was renamed as Bayerische Motoren Werke AG and introduces its famous roundel, which combines the circular Rapp Motorenwerke logo and the colors of the flag of Bavaria.
