#3 Snow leopard were first described by European naturalists around 1775. Around mid-19th century, European taxonomists classified snow leopards within a separate genus, Uncia. They were not classified as members of the "Big Cats" genus, Panthera until 2008. Their closest "cousin" among the Big Cats is the tiger and not the leopard. Unlike the tiger, as well as all other Panthera species (lion, tiger, jaguar, leopard and snow leopard), the snow leopard is unable to roar. BA
