Carlos Kleiber (1930–2004). German-born Austrian conductor as his father Erich Kleiber, ranked among the greatest of the 20c. He studied chemistry and music in Zurich. He was mostly held back away from the public. He has only a few recordings, but almost all shall be considered excellent. His performance of Beethoven's 5th and 7th symphonies with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra are considered legendary. His performances were meticulously rehearsed, but often seemed spontaneous and inspired.
