1️⃣ Quarter cherry tomatoes when 1:1 supervision is not possible through age 4. If baby’s pincer grasp has formed, cut them even smaller to maximize consumption or continue quartering. 2️⃣Gradually introduce whole cherry tomatoes while your child is seated at a table with direct 1:1 supervision + coaching from you on how to take bites. This age will depend on your child’s chewing skills. For some, it may be 18-24 mos. But follow your gut. #FingerFoodFirst #babyledweaning More info... We love drumsticks for babies! Easy for baby to hold, fantastic for tongue mapping and oral development, and buys you 10 minutes of peace and quiet at the table! BUT WHAT IF A PIECE BREAKS OFF?!! It will. Stay calm, and give your baby the opportunity to work it forward. If drumsticks are too much for you, you can always shred the meat or cut into paper-thin slices. Just avoid offering cubes or chunks of loose meat.
Grapes are a common choking hazard for babies and children, and because you must quarter them to make them safe, it’s best to wait until your baby has fully developed a pincer grasp before serving them. (For most babies this will happen around 12 months of age.) Grapes regularly top the charts of produce with the most pesticides so if your budget allows, buy organic grapes to reduce the risk of toxic exposure.

When it comes to pasta for babies starting solids, it is best to go big in size. We love rigatoni, extra wide, flat egg noodles, penne and ziti. And that spiral-shape pasta in the middle? Cavatappi! It’s awesome for babies—like a long, hollow macaroni! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Pasta can be tricky for babies—and with sauce, insanely messy—but it’s all in the shape. Eggs are a terrific source of protein, essential fats, iron, and zinc. To serve: Make an omelet and cut rectangular strips for your baby to hold with their fist. To encourage self-feeding, hand the strip to your baby in the air. Once your baby’s pincer grasp develops, move on to the next stage. At this age you can also incorporate egg into any dish as long as the egg is well cooked. #FingerFoodFirst #1000Foods #babyledweaning #babyledfeeding #6monthsold #9monthsold #firstfoods #startingsolids
