14th cent English (Norfolk) Medieval belt stud or mount of quatrefoil shape (small), with swan motif, in gold. It would originally have been enamelled.  A spike on the reverse would have formed an attachment to a leather strap.

Copper-alloy, 24.77 grams, 69.54 mm.13th-14th c AD. A cast socketed belt-chape or strap end comprising a rectangular socket & sub-triangular finial. Socket has incised scaphoid decoration & a transverse collar. The finial - 3 dished circles  w crown motif reserved against a pecked background; below a lobed trefoil w leaf detailing. Addl leaf detail connects right dished feature w one below. Ref: London Museum Medieval Cat 1940, rep Ipswich, 1993, p.264ff. Prov: Sittingbourne, Kent.
