Lesley Wood: Stitching for joy – TextileArtist
Lesley Wood, Furnished with Memories (detail) When Lesley Wood inherited her mother's cross stitch stash and tried to replicate her own fine art paintings on fabric, she was frustrated that her stitches were thick and clumsy. Not to be deterred, she joined her local Embroiderers' Guild, and in a few short years became an award winning textile artist.

Cayce Zavaglia's portraits reflects her fascination with the gaze of the portrait, which she says has remained a constant in her work. All her pieces are hand sewn using cotton, silk thread or crewel embroidery wool. From a distance Cayce’s pieces read as hyper-realistic paintings, but up close they are highly textural, tactile pieces. ‘Physically profound’! This is emphasised by often showing the other side of her embroidered portraits.
